Megan Donely performing at the 2011 Fall Music Festival
THANK
YOU TO ALL WHO ATTENDED AND SUPPORTED OUR FALL FEST
III !
It
was a HUGE success and we raised over $4000.00 for
the Children's Miracle Network. FALL FEST IV is
slated for October 27th, 2012!
The
MyRuralRadio.com Fall Music Festival is a charity
event and proceeds generated go to the Children's
Miracle Network, a
non-profit organization dedicated to saving and
improving the lives of children by raising funds
for children’s hospitals.
Can't attend and would
like to make a donation to our cause?
Naylor Winery is nestled
among the green valleys of southern York County in
Stewartstown, Pennsylvania are 80 acres of sensual
adventure just waiting to be discovered. Here,
you can walk the vineyards where luscious clusters
of Old Eastern Labrusca, French-American and Classic
European Vinifera grapes hang in colorful profusion.
It sounded like a great idea:
a music festival at a winery. Featuring 19 bands
for $15, it was a bargain and all proceeds would
benefit The Children’s Miracle Network. Fall
Music Festival 3 turned out to be beyond great and
a bargain at any price. Clear your October 2012
calendar in preparation for Fall Music Festival
4, hosted again by MyRuralRadio.com!
My Rural Radio Fall Music Fest is a family affair.
Owners Michael Males and Trampas Ferree are relatives
with a common love for music, community and good
times. MRR.com was born when they tired of hearing
the same old songs on commercial radio and seeing
the same old cover bands at local clubs. As part-time
touring musicians and fans of York’s bustling
open-mic scene, they knew that the plethora of local
talent was making great music and being marginalized.
My Rural Radio.com plays original, unsigned, independent
musicians in every genre. You would be grievously
mistaken if you think MRR is for country or folk
artists alone and this year’s festival proved
it.
The festival opened with the national anthem, sung
by SWHS student Morgan La Fave. Morgan performed
admirably on stage 3 later, but she cleared stage
1 to make room for The Infidels. Yes, The Infidels,
a punk rock band with metal tendencies was the opening
act at My Rural Radio’s festival! Other acts
included pop, funk and rock bands. What the show
did not include was boring, typical songs played
by people with all the trappings of a musician but
not the soul.

Suzi
Brown (3:15 stage 3)
Suzi
Brown is a young world traveler whose life experiences
permeate her complex acoustic compositions instrumentally
and lyrically. She has performed internationally
at venues throughout Australia, China, Thailand,
and South Korea. Not only will her melodies capture
you, her fascinating stories of travel and performing
music will draw you in. Her rhythmic percussive
beats and two-finger tapping style is reminiscent
of Andy McKee, Ani DiFranco, and Trace Bundy.
Suzi continues to live, love, and challenge her
listeners to think outside of the box.
The
Historic bides their time not just crafting thoughtful
songs and lyrics (influenced by everyone from
Bob Dylan to Wilco) but also partaking in frequent
philosophical conversations about life, community
and religion. It is the band's goal to make a
difference in people's lives, inspiring discussions
about the things in life that are worth discussing.
Sarah’s
approach to music is that of an artist inspired
by each passing nuance and minute detail. She
admits, “Life is too complex to even begin
to understand, so I make sense of life through
song.” She now writes almost daily, finding
a place for her unique voice in a variety of different
Sarah Blacker styles. “I always believe
the songs that are meant to stick around will
stay, and some will fall by the wayside,”
Sarah explains, “Some songs might find their
life-span to be but a sketch, and others may disappear
for a while, and then resurface. But some just
write themselves in a few minutes, and stick hard.
Some just want to stick around.”
Phil
Freeman and the Lone Wolf Project (7:45 stage 2)
Freeman claims to have been bitten by a Were Wolf
in July of 2006 obviously causing him to become
one as well. According to him this contributed greatly
to the Project's existence, giving Freeman an outlet
for his howling muses which frequently refer to
the pains and pleasures of life.
Disenchanted with
the Nashville publishing machine, in 1999 J.D.
formed his own band, The Guilty Plezures, including
guitarist Michael Kelsh (Rodney Crowell, Steve
Earle) and bassist Jack Sundred (Poco).A c.d.
was produced, titled “Guilty in a Sense”,
by Bill Halverson (Crosby, Stills, Nash &
Young, Neil Young) recorded at the Sound Emporium
studio (Willie Nelson, Dierks Bentley) resulting
in a successful tour of the mid-west and mid-Atlantic
regions.

"My
name is Dana. My hometown still doesn't have a
stoplight and I truly hope it stays that way.
I'm a born singer and a not so born guitarist.
Oh well. I love to collect mugs. I knit scarves.
I'm very forgetful when it comes to people. please
don't take offense. just realize I'm a dodo when
it comes to that and it will probably take me
10 times to finally get it right. I love the peace
and quiet falling asleep to crickets and peepers
on a summer's eve. I also love being close enough
to big cities to soak up as much culture as I
can under those brilliant city lights! I love
skylines. I really love trees. I'm a summer girl
but I love every season too. I love being outside
even though I'm a girly girl...being both is possible!
I love my family and friends although right now
a lot of them are too far away from me..."
Founded
by bassist Rod Goelz, Groove Jones has been inciting
audiences into funk-frenzied,undulating agglomerations
since 2006. From the beginning, Rod's goal was
a simple one: apply the old-school funk esthetics
and influences to fit contemporary currents. For
Rod, this involved re-vamping approaches to performance—no
sequencers, no drum machines. Groove Jones would
be real-time; real-deal. Fun was to be key.
Groove
Jones' 2011 8-piece ace-assemblage features some
of central Pennsylvania's finest R&B/funk
musicians: Lea Jolan (vocals); Joe McDowell (vocals,
keyboard, vocoder, trumpet); Ralph Real (vocals,
keyboard); Rod Goelz (4- and 5-string basses,
background vocals); Drew Stepp (rhythm guitars,
background vocals); Anthony Aguirre (drums, vocals);
Wes Burke (saxophones), and AJ Myers (Trumpet).
Jessica
Smucker writes what could be considered "dark
pop" songs: catchy melodies in minor keys,
lyrics that masterfully infuse sad stories with
tiny flecks of humor and hope. She performs in
diverse configurations and contexts, but her songs
have a consistent melodic edge. "Woven with
a sort of defiant sadness, a square-jawed resilience"
(Fly Magazine), her compositions often start down
a familiar road but, through a series of subtle
twists and curves, deliver the listener to an
unexpected destination.

"If
we all stuck to the things that Mr. Rogers told
us to do, the world would be a much much better
place to live in today."

AS
REVIEWED BY PAIGE MCINTYRE (CATS EYE PUB)
These guys are another one of our favorite new bands
who are making news. Totally by chance I was awake
at 7am on 12/24 and happened to turn on the tv set
on channel 45. Lo and behold there are the boys
being intro'd to play a couple of songs. They truly
rocked the news studio, starting out with an excellent
keying of the "Charlie Brown" theme song
then rolled into, (to my absolute delight and admiration),
The Ramones' "I Don't Want to Fight Tonight".

the stuff that makes feel good music feel so good." http://www.markderosemusic.com/

"This
acoustic duo celebrates their personal love story
with lyrics that are honest, mature, and family-friendly."
-- Market House News Briefs, Columbia, PA, December
2010
"Jazz-infused pop meets Karen Carpenter vocals.
Lyrically, the band touches on the desperate need
we all have for relationships with God, others,
and ourselves."
